The Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP) has enhanced the design for recycling for PET monolayer trays with the addition of design for recycling for PET multilayer trays.

The initiative is in line with the work the thermoform team is carrying out in the CEN Standardization WG.

These guidelines will provide further crucial support to the mechanical recycling of PET trays industry in Europe. (https://www.tcep-europe.org/design-guidelines/products), providing the required quality and food safety of both the monolayer and multilayer tray recycling streams.

This initiative further supports the circular economy by promoting the recycling of materials for the same application and adding value to each stream.

By actively working towards increasing the use of recycled PET, the mechanical recycling industry for plastics is playing a vital role in reducing waste and enhancing the concept of plastic waste being an important feedstock material.

By aligning with the targets set by the European Commission, and the structuring the industry for ‘circularity’, the PET value chain players are actively working towards a more sustainable future.

The Tray Circularity Evaluation Platform (TCEP) is a European industry initiative that provides PET thermoforms design guidelines for recycling, evaluates thermoform packaging solutions and technologies, and facilitates understanding of the effects of new PET thermoforms innovations on recycling process.

The TCEP initiative fully supports the economic and Environmental sustainability of the European PET value chain.
