JetHouse upgrades long-haul catering with insulated box

JetHouse has upgraded long-haul catering with passive cold-chain storage technology. Cold Chain Technologies’ Advanced Insulated Box removes the need for dry ice while supporting temperature control, food safety, and simpler onboard catering operations.

Maltese private aviation operator JetHouse has enhanced its premium onboard catering capabilities through the adoption of Cold Chain Technologies’ Advanced Insulated Box (AIB), reinforcing its commitment to delivering a first-class passenger experience on long-range missions.

Since launching operations in 2024, JetHouse has built its reputation around tailored aircraft management and charter services, combining operational excellence with highly personalised customer service.

Operating private charters for VIP clients, including heads of state, sportspeople and entrepreneurs, JetHouse needed a catering storage solution that could protect food quality, support highly personalised menus and reflect the service standards expected of its brand across extended routes, including transatlantic flights.

Catering requests on JetHouse flights are tailored to the client and can therefore range from simple comfort food to luxury items, creating a clear need for dependable temperature control. After previously relying on dry ice supplied by airport catering companies, JetHouse began looking for a safer, simpler and more cost-effective alternative for its long-haul aircraft.

The Advanced Insulated Box is designed to maintain food within safe temperature parameters for up to 24 hours without dry ice, electricity or human intervention. Using vacuum-insulated panels and phase-change materials, the AIB provides consistent temperature maintenance for onboard catering, with formats designed to integrate into standard airline infrastructure.

Following a trial of the AIB in 2025, JetHouse adopted the solution for longer-range journeys, removing the need to order, store and handle dry ice. The AIB acts as a passive system for onboard catering, helping crew manage chilled food with less complexity and removing the burn risk associated with dry ice handling.

For JetHouse, the operational benefits were immediate. Crew no longer needed to coordinate dry ice orders for specific sectors, while catering teams gained a reusable system that is easier to handle and more practical for private charter operations where onboard menus are often tailored flight by flight.

The reusable solution also contributes to streamlining catering logistics and reducing reliance on consumable materials such as dry ice, supporting JetHouse’s continuous efforts to improve operational efficiency.

Basile Desquiens, NPGO and Security Manager at JetHouse, said: “At JetHouse, every detail matters. Whether our passengers request comfort food or gourmet cuisine, they expect the same uncompromising quality when it reaches them. The AIB gives our crew the confidence to preserve that quality throughout long-range flights while simplifying our ground operations.

“We had been using dry ice, but it was expensive, difficult to organise and not always easy to work with. After trialling the AIB, it was clear it would be a good match for our aircraft. It removed the need for dry ice, made the process easier for the crew and gave us a reliable way to support food safety on long-range flights.”

The AIB also helped JetHouse navigate the challenges of food conservation and food safety guidance in private aviation. Cold Chain Technologies provided supporting documentation to demonstrate the box’s thermal performance, giving JetHouse greater confidence in maintaining appropriate temperatures during extended journeys.

Peter Saunders, Business Development Manager – EMEA at Cold Chain Technologies, explained: “JetHouse is a strong example of how the AIB can support the premium end of aviation catering, where flexibility, reliability and confidence are essential. Private charter operators need to meet highly specific customer requirements, often on long-range routes, without adding unnecessary operational complexity. The AIB gives crews a simple, reusable and proven way to protect catering quality and support food safety throughout the journey.”

The adoption of the AIB forms part of JetHouse’s ongoing commitment to investing in innovative solutions that enhance operational efficiency and the passenger experience across its fleet.
