UK bakery – Robert Andrew is launching low-carb sourdough – developed to have less than half the carb count of traditional bread.

Combining sourdough expertise with low-carb baking science, the bread also has lower sugar levels and is boosted with plant protein. It is a new option for lower carb lifestyles and those with specific dietary requirements – who want to change their eating habits, but not the enjoyment of bread.

This is the first low-carb sourdough brand in the UK. It is launching with a wholegrain low-carb sourdough bloomer, which has just 5.6g of carbs per 30g slice and 41 per cent of the carbs of standard bread, along with 63% more protein and 60% less sugar (compared to standard white bread.

Robert Ziola, founder of the Robert Andrew Low-carb Sourdough bakery, said: “We’ve taken the traditions of sourdough, and crafted it for lower carb lifestyles, to deliver something new. There’s rising demand for low-carb baked goods and a clear space in the market for low-carb sourdough.”

The bakery is blending traditional sourdough skills with low-carb techniques, so customers can enjoy the taste and texture, with less than half the carbs of standard bread or sourdough. Its signature sourdough is fermented for over 30 hours, then baked and finished with artisan bakery expertise.

Using quality ingredients, wholegrains and seeds, the low-carb sourdough has been developed to be eaten on its own, or to create tasty low-carb sandwiches or sides – and toasts well too.

The first batch of products in its online bakery store includes a sliced half bloomer (400g) at £4.29 and pack of four low-carb sourdough rolls (240g) at £3.99, plus subscription packages and discounts. The products are ready to eat fresh from the pack and also suitable for home freezing, so customers can stock up and use when needed.

Robert Andrew Low-carb Sourdough is being delivered to customers across the UK, with plans to extend the range for people who are looking for low-carb options and keto-friendly treats
