NEURA acquires ADLATUS autonomous cleaning robotics

NEURA has acquired ADLATUS to expand autonomous cleaning robotics operations. The German robotics group will combine an installed fleet and navigation software with its sensor, fleet-management and Physical AI technologies.


NEURA Robotics has acquired 100% of German autonomous cleaning specialist ADLATUS Robotics, adding hundreds of deployed machines and proprietary navigation software to a mobile robotics business already expanding through industrial intralogistics.

The Ulm-based company becomes part of NEURA Mobile Robots, bringing an established product family used across industry, logistics, healthcare, commercial buildings and public spaces. NEURA plans to integrate the operation with its wider sensor, fleet management and Neuraverse software technologies while retaining the application expertise developed around professional cleaning.

ADLATUS makes autonomous cleaning and sweeping systems together with the software and services needed to commission and maintain them. Hundreds of machines are already installed, giving the acquisition a different technical starting point from buying a robotics developer whose equipment has yet to move beyond prototypes or limited pilots.

Machines operating daily in factories and commercial buildings encounter considerably more variability than a staged demonstration. Pallets, people, doors, temporary barriers and equipment can alter a route from one shift to the next, while cleaning quality still has to remain consistent across surfaces and layouts that were not designed around autonomous vehicles.

NEURA intends to add further sensing and artificial intelligence to the product family. The company has described a future system capable of recognising surfaces and levels of contamination before selecting a suitable cleaning response, but that is a development objective rather than a capability attributed to every ADLATUS machine operating today.

The current installed base already provides autonomous navigation and cleaning functions. Integrating additional sensors and software should allow NEURA to test its wider technology against a routine commercial process in which performance can be measured through coverage, labour requirement, machine availability and cleaning result rather than through demonstrations of general robotic behaviour.

Professional cleaning may be less visually dramatic than humanoid manipulation, but it presents demanding autonomy problems. A machine has to cover an area systematically, avoid people and obstacles, manage charging and servicing, report faults and recover from ordinary changes to its environment without needing an employee to rescue it repeatedly.

Industrial sites add interactions with other automation. Cleaning equipment can share aisles with forklifts, automated guided vehicles, autonomous mobile robots and pedestrians, creating a need for traffic rules and fleet coordination if several vehicle types are to work during the same operating period.

Andreas Lindemann, managing director of NEURA Mobile Robots, said the company intends to integrate ADLATUS into its Fleet Manager and develop the machines as a broader product family. That would place cleaning robots within the same management environment as vehicles used to move materials through factories and warehouses.

The deal follows NEURA Mobile Robots’ agreement this month to acquire Bosch Rexroth’s ACTIVE Shuttle platform, with the transfer taking effect on 1 October. ACTIVE Shuttle is an autonomous guided vehicle used for intralogistics tasks such as transporting small load carriers and feeding assembly areas, together with navigation and fleet management software.

Acquiring the two product lines in close succession points towards a strategy of combining established mobile machinery with common software rather than developing every platform internally. ACTIVE Shuttle adds material transport, while ADLATUS brings cleaning, its installed fleet and specialised operating knowledge.

NEURA Mobile Robots already includes the former ek robotics operation and employs more than 300 people. The organisation is headquartered in Hamburg and has locations including Reutlingen, Milan, Prague and Buckingham, giving the expanded product range an existing engineering, integration and service base.

ADLATUS and NEURA had also been working together before the ownership change. A strategic partnership began in September 2025, providing both businesses with experience of their respective technologies and commercial approaches before the acquisition was completed.

That continuity is relevant where deployed machines require ongoing spare parts, software updates and field service. Customers running autonomous equipment as part of normal operations are generally more interested in whether support continues after an acquisition than in how extensively the new parent describes its software strategy.

NEURA calls its wider approach Physical AI, referring to the combination of sensing, machine intelligence and physical robotic systems. The label covers ambitions well beyond cleaning, but ADLATUS provides a useful test because the machines already perform a defined task whose result can be compared before and after additional intelligence is introduced.

There is also a limit to how much complexity customers will pay to add. A cleaning robot that already covers its route reliably does not automatically become more valuable because it runs a larger model or connects to another software platform. Extra sensing has to reduce supervision, improve the cleaning outcome, lower maintenance or allow the machine to cope with situations that previously stopped it.

The acquisition gives NEURA the installed equipment and customer environments in which those claims can be tested. Its task now is less about proving that autonomous floor cleaning is possible — ADLATUS has already put hundreds of systems into service — and more about showing that common fleet management and additional intelligence can make a very ordinary industrial job measurably better. Factories tend to be quite unsentimental about robots once the demonstration is over.
