Cintoo updates Workspace with guided 3D scan reviews

Cintoo has added guided collaboration controls to Workspace review sessions. Desktop and VR participants can regroup around scan-based project issues, share annotations and make temporary measurements during a session.

Cintoo has added guided collaboration functions to Workspace, allowing project teams to conduct shared reviews of 3D site scans and design models. The company detailed the Lead, Follow and Gather controls on 5 October ahead of demonstrations at R-CON in Boise on 12–15 October. The update expands the existing Workspace application rather than introducing a new product.

Workspace connects participants to reality capture projects held on Cintoo’s cloud platform, where laser scans can be reviewed alongside building information models and other project resources. Desktop and virtual reality users can join the same session, see each other’s position and use voice or text chat and laser pointers to discuss particular features of a site. The common view is useful when reviewing changes to plant equipment or identifying differences between recorded conditions and a design model.

A session Leader can select the project, guide discussion and send Gather requests to participants who have opted into guided navigation. Accepting a request moves a participant to the Leader’s position and orientation, with the relevant workzone and visible resources. Participants can decline, while users who have opted out remain free to explore independently. Follow does not continuously mirror another person’s movements; relocation occurs only when a Gather request is accepted.

Annotations can be opened during a review to connect a discussion with a recorded location or issue. Cintoo distinguishes annotations held in the project from newly created notes that have yet to be pushed back to its cloud platform. Measurements are different: once completed, they can be seen by other session members, but they are temporary and are not saved to the underlying project. People joining later do not automatically receive earlier session measurements.

Project permissions remain in force even when a Leader directs the group to another area. Hosting a collaborative session requires the relevant subscription, while other signed-in participants can join using a session identifier if they already have project access. Cintoo documents a six-hour limit for a session. Access to project information must be arranged through the company’s web application before participants join.

The new controls allow a group to review an area together while individual specialists retain access to the wider model. They do not themselves verify survey accuracy or turn temporary measurements into an inspection record. Cintoo plans a further demonstration webinar on 20 October following its R-CON presentation.
