Chemique investment strengthens adhesive supply resilience

Chemique has expanded manufacturing capacity to protect adhesive supply continuity. Additional equipment, storage, and production redundancy will support demand while reducing exposure to individual machine failures.


Chemique Adhesives has expanded its production and storage capacity through new equipment and additional factory space, strengthening supply continuity across its industrial adhesive operations.

The company now operates from seven buildings on a single estate, while multiple mixing systems allow selected products to be manufactured across more than one machine or location. That arrangement provides additional capacity during periods of high demand and reduces dependence on individual items of production equipment.

Manufacturing redundancy carries particular value in adhesive production because an unplanned mixer failure can disrupt several downstream customers simultaneously. Although adhesives often represent a relatively small proportion of finished-product cost, they remain essential to assembly, lamination, sealing, insulation, furniture manufacture, transport interiors, packaging, and construction products.

Chemique’s expanded capacity operates within an ISO 9001 quality management system, under which every batch is traceable and subject to laboratory testing before release. Checks can include viscosity, cure behaviour, bond strength, and resistance to the environmental conditions expected during use.

Retained batch samples provide a reference when customers raise technical queries or report production problems. Engineers can compare the original material with application records, substrates, processing temperatures, storage conditions, and other variables that may have influenced performance.

The company also operates under ISO 14001, with controls covering waste, resource consumption, and environmental compliance. New machinery and production space must therefore be incorporated without weakening the management of solvents, cleaning processes, raw materials, emissions, or waste streams.

Minor inputs can stop major production lines

Once an adhesive has been validated for a specific substrate and manufacturing process, replacing it at short notice may require further testing, customer approval, and changes to equipment settings. Open time, cure speed, temperature resistance, moisture behaviour, surface preparation, and application method can all affect whether a substitute performs successfully.

Products with similar headline properties may behave differently when dispensed, compressed, heated, or exposed to service conditions. Manufacturers consequently depend on continuity from both the formulation and the process used to produce it.

Additional mixers can protect output when equipment requires maintenance, although resilience also depends on raw material availability, trained operators, laboratory capacity, packaging, and transport. A redundant machine offers limited protection if a critical chemical component or approved container is unavailable.

Chemical supply chains have faced repeated disruption from energy prices, shipping delays, feedstock shortages, and regulatory change. Manufacturers have responded by holding more safety stock, qualifying alternative inputs, and reviewing whether production has become overly concentrated within one facility or region.

Those measures increase working capital and operational complexity, particularly because many chemicals carry shelf-life, storage, or hazardous-goods requirements. Redundant machinery also consumes maintenance resources even when it is not operating at full utilisation.

The calculation depends on the cost of interruption. A manufacturer running continuous or high-volume production can lose far more through an idle line than it spends on the adhesive that caused the stoppage, making credible recovery arrangements an increasingly important part of supplier assessment.

Traceability becomes equally significant when a failure occurs. Adhesive performance depends on formulation and production consistency, but contamination, expired stock, unsuitable temperatures, incorrect ratios, or insufficient pressure during assembly can create defects that initially appear to originate with the material.

Complete batch records and retained samples allow investigations to move beyond assumption, establishing whether the supplied product met specification and helping engineers identify whether the problem developed during storage, dispensing, curing, or service.

As production becomes more automated, adhesives must also interact reliably with pumps, metering systems, robots, and inspection equipment. Variations in viscosity or cure behaviour can alter dispensing pressure, bead geometry, takt time, and reject rates, turning material consistency into a direct part of process control.

Environmental requirements are also reshaping formulation and application choices. Customers are seeking lower-emission products, reduced solvent use, recyclable assemblies, and bonding methods compatible with lightweight or mixed materials, although changes can affect durability or complicate product separation at end of life.

The additional capacity gives Chemique greater flexibility to manage product mix, schedule maintenance, and respond to customer growth. Sustaining that benefit will depend on disciplined demand planning, raw material management, laboratory throughput, and the consistent operation of the expanded estate.

Industrial production can be stopped by a delayed formulation, an unavailable mixer, or a batch that cannot be released with confidence. Chemique’s investment strengthens the less visible infrastructure required to keep those interruptions from reaching customer factories.
