Walker’s Shortbread has announced the appointment of Bryony Walker as its new commercial director, joining the company’s board of directors with immediate effect.

Since joining Walker’s in 2013, Bryony has progressed through various positions, culminating in her most recent position as head of commercial strategy, a role she has held since January 2022.

As a fourth-generation member of the Walker’s family, Bryony Walker’s appointment continues the legacy of family leadership. Her great-grandfather, Joseph Walker, founded the Company and her father, the late Sir Jim Walker, served as joint managing director.

Bryony succeeds Steve McCarney, who will transition to a part-time role, remaining a director.

Nicky Walker, managing director of Walker’s Shortbread, said: “We are delighted to welcome Bryony onto the board and into the role of commercial director. Bryony brings a deep understanding of our family dynamic, our customers, the Walker’s brand and the challenges involved in the role”.

“Bryony’s fresh perspective in conjunction with the strong foundations already in place, will ensure commercial continuity for the business.”

“We are also delighted Steve will continue to be an active member of the board, as well as continuing to support Bryony.

“His dedication and his commercial expertise over the past seven years has been pivotal in aiding our successful brand relaunch and helping realise our growth aspirations. I look forward to continuing to engage with Steve in his new role at both Board level and on specified commercial projects.

Bryony Walker, commercial director of Walker’s Shortbread, added that since joining the family business over a decade ago she has spent time understanding the intricacies of the business, the customers and the environment it operates in.

“I have enjoyed working closely with Steve with his support and leadership, and I am excited to be taking over from him as commercial director,” she noted. “I’m looking forward to the challenge as we build on the great work Steve has achieved, and to play a role in the next chapter of Walker’s following on from my father.”

Walker’s also announced that Bob Brannan’s position as company chairman concluded at the company’s recent AGM.

Nicky Walker, managing director said “Bob’s tenure with the company proved to be one of great transition and we are extremely grateful for the insight, dedication and drive Bob brought to the Company.

“Bob leaves with our heartfelt thanks and we wish him the very best luck in whatever his next steps may be”.
