The DLMS UA and Open Metering System Group have signed an agreement to foster interoperability and standardisation across utility industries.

Under the agreement the aim is to provide comprehensive solutions tailored to the needs of the electricity, water, gas, and thermal energy sectors, leveraging DLMS UA’s expertise in data models and data formats and OMS Group’s experience in low power communication technology and metering solutions.

Coordinated efforts will focus on facilitating the convergence of both standardisation frameworks by adopting the DLMS Data Model and Format over M-Bus and Wireless M-Bus low power communication technologies, to enhance interoperability between devices and systems in the utility industries.

They also will focus on aligning global initiatives to facilitate seamless integration of smart metering technologies while ensuring robust support for legacy systems and fostering innovation by addressing emerging challenges in metering, data exchange and system integration.

By defining unambiguous conversion of OMS and DLMS data models, interoperability within metering systems should be extended.

“This partnership aligns with our vision of creating a unified framework for interoperable multi-utility smart metering systems, enabling significant advancements in the water and gas sectors” said Sergio Lazzarotto, President and Executive Director of the DLMS UA.

“Our vision is to create seamless interoperability for the electricity, water, gas and thermal energy sectors by using interoperable data models, protocols and communication technologies” added Ulrich Eff, Head of Associations & Alliances at Diehl Metering and board member of the OMS.

A statement on the agreement says that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to driving innovation and efficiency through the harmonisation of global standards. In this way, the agreement aims to provide comprehensive solutions tailored to the needs of the electricity, water, gas, and thermal energy sectors.
