Bobbi Harris, executive director of the Utility Broadband Alliance, said the relationship marks a significant step toward strengthening global cooperation in utility wireless communications.
“Together with the 450 MHz Alliance, we aim to address the growing demands for connectivity, expand the device ecosystem, and ensure utilities have the tools they need to operate efficiently and securely.”
Gösta Kallner, executive chairman of the 450 MHz Alliance, highlighted the crucial role of the utility sector in enabling critical infrastructure.
“Our collaboration will empower utilities to leverage the best wireless technologies for their unique challenges, paving the way for smarter energy ecosystems around the globe.”
The two alliances plan to work together to drive initiatives through knowledge sharing, educational events, and the promotion of best practices to accelerate secure wireless adoption in the utility sector.
In other recent news from the alliances, Austrian utility Energie AG Oberösterreich has selected 450 MHz Alliance member Westermo’s cellular technology for the upgrade of 6,000 substations from CDMA 450 to LTE 450 MHz.
With 450MHz found to work well in Energie AG Oberösterreich’s mixed topology service area, ranging from flat zones to high mountains, the rollout necessitated by the approach to end of life of CDMA is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
