Ontario utility Oshawa Power is implementing Trilliant’s Smart Building Platform to support its suite metering programme for multi-unit buildings.

Through the suite metering – or submetering – programme, Oshawa Power provides each unit within residential and commercial buildings with its own separate meter.

With this residents are enabled to pay only for the electricity used in their unit as opposed to a monthly flat rate to their building and can be encouraged in their individual conservation efforts with direct control of their electricity costs.

“Our suite metering programme provides occupants of multi-unit buildings with the ability to minimise costs and take control of their energy efficiency — two things we know customers are eager to do,” said Daniel Arbour, president and CEO of Oshawa Power.

“Our partnership with Trilliant allows us to leverage their expertise and knowledge to ensure we’re providing the best possible service to our customers. We’re proud to continue to grow our programme, supporting building owners, condominium boards and residents with the ability to better manage their energy use.”

Oshawa Power provides electricity to more than 61,000 homes and businesses across the city of Oshawa, just to the northeast of Toronto.

Oshawa Power intends to use turnkey services and technology from Trilliant to design, install, and maintain wired and wireless suite metering/submetering systems for installation in both existing buildings and new constructions.

Trilliant will provide field resources, third-party logistics services, as well as managed data and analytics services in order to simplify processes for Oshawa Power while enabling customers to quickly and effectively manage their energy use.

The company says that the partnership comes at a pivotal time as utilities prioritise their participation in grid modernisation, carbon footprint reduction, electrification and other energy transition initiatives across Canada.

Adds Steven Lupo, managing director, Canada and US at Trilliant: “We’re excited to support Oshawa Power as it focuses on enabling customers to better manage and take control of their energy use.”
