Anglian Water has signed new contracts with its network partner Arqiva and alliance partners Kier and Clancy for completion of its smart meter rollout by 2030.

The new agreements for a further five years build on an existing relationship, through which Anglian Water has fitted one million smart meters across its region to date.

Arqiva is the network provider, with a total of over two million smart meters across Britain connected, and Kier and Clancy provide the installation services at a rate of over 1,500 meters per day.

“I’m proud to announce we’re extending our agreement with our alliance partners, Kier and Clancy for a further five years,” commented Jason Tucker, director of Strategic Delivery & Commercial Assurance for Anglian Water.

“The strength of our partnership has been the cornerstone of our success, and it will continue to be key as we work towards completing our smart meter rollout over the next five years. Together, we are not only delivering a seamless experience for our customers but also fostering a team environment that our people are proud to be part of.”

Anglian Water is deploying Sensus smart water metering technology, with a key aim to reduce leakage.

Since starting the rollout in 2020 the technology is reported to have helped to find and fix over 300,000 leaks.

Anglian Water also anticipates improved water planning with better knowledge of water usage across its service territory, which encompasses central eastern England from Grimsby in the north to Milton Keynes to the southwest.

Anglian Water serves approximately 4.3 million people with water supply.

With the improved knowledge of water use that the smart meters with hourly reading can provide, it is targeting per capita consumption of 124l/day by 2030, towards Ofwat’s 2050 target of 110l/d.

The company also is targeting a further 8% reduction in leakage levels between 2025 to 2030.
