Stonhard has launched Stonchem 691, a conductive epoxy coating for chemical industry environments where electrostatic discharge control and high chemical resistance are both required.

Kemtile, a Stonhard division and UK flooring installation specialist, will show the product on stand E47 in the processing and engineering zone at ChemUK 2026. The formulation is intended for plant areas where static control, spark-proof performance, cleanability, and resistance to corrosive materials have to be delivered through the same surface system.

Using carbon nanotube technology, Stonchem 691 creates a conductive network within a high-density cross-linked polymer coating. The system maintains conductivity while resisting concentrated sulfuric acid, caustics, and solvents, giving it a role in process environments exposed to regular splash, spill, or containment duties.

Stonhard’s Linings Manager Sean McIntyre said: “This is a small change designed to make a big difference to customers in the chemical industry tackling key issues around ESD and the need for high resistance to corrosive materials. It is an excellent improvement to a trusted flooring solution.”

The coating has been formulated for hazardous areas, including ATEX-zoned workplaces where explosive atmospheres may be created by gases, vapours, mists, or combustible dusts. When tested to European Standard EN 1081, the finished surface records resistance below 1,000,000Ω.

Tank farms, solvent storage areas, explosion-proof rooms, secondary containment zones, concrete pads, pedestals, and splash or spill areas are among the applications identified for the product. Its gloss finish is available in seven standard colours, with customised colours available on request, and texture options can be specified to improve slip resistance.

Stonhard recommends applying Stonchem 691 above an appropriate spark-proof mortar. Further details on the company’s chemical-resistant systems are available through Stonhard’s Stonchem range.
