Royal HaskoningDHV has acquired the Dutch-Belgian company Uticon, an engineering firm focused on the food industry.

The independent consulting engineering company said the purchase gives it even more knowledge of food and beverage production facilities and processes. As a result, it said clients can now be supported from “A to Z” when it comes to new construction or expansion of their factories – from feasibility to implementation.

Marije Hulshof, CEO of Royal HaskoningDHV noted that the acquisition is the next step in an existing successful collaboration on many projects.

“Together, we can provide clients in the food and beverage industry with a comprehensive range of services and continue to grow,” Hulshof said. “Food and beverage is one of our focus areas within the industry where we have faced limited growth potential due to a tight labour market. Going forward we can handle larger integrated projects spanning engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) while focussing on making food and beverage production more sustainable.”

René de Roos, managing director of Uticon said the move helps it realise its growth ambitions.

“By joining forces, we gain access to international markets, other clients, services and locations of Royal HaskoningDHV,” de Roos said. “This is not only good for the business, but – at least as important – also gives our employees new growth and development opportunities. A win-win on all fronts.”

Uticon has 85 employees, is headquartered in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and has offices in Wageningen and Bergen op Zoom (NL) and in Ghent, Belgium. Uticon has extensive multidisciplinary knowledge in the field of engineering within the food industry.
