ACI expands seals for HPLC pumps

ACI has launched replacement seals for major HPLC pump systems. The new aftermarket range is designed for Agilent and Waters instruments, supporting high-pressure analytical workflows.

Analytical Components International has launched a line of high-performance seals compatible with major HPLC and UHPLC pump systems.

The Stoughton, Massachusetts-based manufacturer said the seals are designed for use with Agilent HPLC pumps and Waters HPLC and UHPLC pumps, giving laboratories and service providers an aftermarket replacement option for critical pump head components.

ACI has long supplied hard-material components for analytical instrumentation, including sapphire and ceramic pistons. By adding seals, the company is extending its coverage of the piston-seal interface, where surface finish, material choice, pressure resistance, and dimensional fit directly influence pump stability.

In high-performance liquid chromatography, poor seal compatibility can lead to leakage, pressure instability, premature wear, contamination, and inconsistent flow. Those failures carry particular cost in regulated or high-throughput laboratories, where instrument reliability and repeatable separation performance are central to analytical confidence.

ACI said its system approach is intended to reduce the risk of premature seal failure and support pulse-free flow at pressures exceeding 15,000 psi. The company’s pistons are polished to high surface finish standards, while the seals are designed to limit degradation under demanding pump conditions.

Material selection varies by system. The range uses graphite-filled PTFE for aftermarket Agilent pumps and reinforced UHMW-PE for aftermarket Waters ACQUITY pumps, with each material chosen to support high-pressure performance and longer maintenance intervals.

The new seals are compatible with Agilent 1100, 1200, and 1260 pumps, cross-referenced to OEM part numbers 5063-6589 and 0905-1420. The range also covers Waters Alliance pumps, cross-referenced to WAT271018, WAT270938, WAT271017, WAT270939, and WAT270940, as well as Waters ACQUITY pumps, cross-referenced to 700002598 and 700002599.

“With this launch, ACI closes the loop on the HPLC pump head,” said Isabelle Darcy, Operations Management at ACI. “By combining our world-class sapphire pistons with precision-engineered seals, we are providing high-performance aftermarket seals to support reliable operation in existing HPLC systems. This isn’t just a new product line; it is a commitment to ensuring reliable, high-performance operation throughout the analytical workflow.”

The launch gives ACI a broader role in HPLC pump maintenance by pairing its established piston expertise with seal components designed for direct replacement or performance upgrades. Further information is available through ACI’s HPLC and UHPLC seals page.
