WIKA has expanded its flow measurement portfolio with the ClampSonic 4 FLC-CS4, a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter for contactless measurement of process liquids.
Mounted on the outside of a pipe, the instrument measures flow in both directions without cutting into the line or placing a sensor in the process medium. That design is suited to corrosive, abrasive, and highly viscous liquids, where intrusive measurement can increase maintenance demand, contamination risk, or downtime.
The FLC-CS4 uses ultrasonic acoustic wave propagation to measure flow across a wide measuring range. Alongside flow, it can record temperature, density, concentration, and calorific value, giving operators a broader process measurement tool rather than a single-parameter instrument.
Retrofit projects, temporary inspections, and process diagnostics often require data from assets that were not originally designed with additional instrumentation in mind. A clamp-on instrument avoids pipe modification and allows measurement points to be added or moved with less disruption to production, utilities, or water infrastructure.
WIKA lists application areas including mining, paper production, food and beverage, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, water and wastewater, process industry, and primary metallurgy. In those environments, non-invasive measurement can be particularly useful when media properties, hygiene demands, or plant access make intrusive devices less attractive.
The instrument can be configured through an integrated user interface, either directly in the field or remotely using built-in Wi-Fi. The WIKA WebApp displays selected parameters for two streams, detailed measurement information, and diagnostics including waveform data and installation parameters.
Rather than relying on physical keys, the unit uses touch and gesture control, with a full-colour, high-resolution IPS LC display designed for readability in direct sunlight. Those interface choices are aimed at field work where commissioning, verification, and troubleshooting need to be carried out quickly and without additional software.
The FLC-CS4 is available in wireless and field versions, both supplied with an electronic unit and two transducers. The field version also includes a power supply and communication box, allowing isolated power connection and integration into PLC ecosystems.
