Apricorn appoints CEO for encrypted storage growth

Apricorn has appointed Jeanclaude Toma as its chief executive officer. His appointment comes as the company targets regulated markets requiring hardware-based protection for sensitive data at rest, in transit, and across distributed operating environments.

Apricorn has appointed Jeanclaude Toma as chief executive officer, placing a veteran technology operator in charge of its next phase of growth across secure data storage markets.

Toma joins the company with more than 25 years of leadership experience across IT infrastructure, data storage, and semiconductors. His remit covers business execution, customer expansion, partner development, and growth in regulated and security-sensitive markets including government, defence, healthcare, and financial services.

Apricorn builds software-free, hardware-encrypted external storage designed to protect data independently of host operating systems. Its products give organisations a way to control sensitive information as it moves between users, devices, and locations.

Paul Brown, founder of Apricorn, said: “Jeanclaude brings not only the leadership and operating knowledge needed for Apricorn’s next chapter, but also specific experience with the regulated industries we serve. His ability to strengthen execution and scale businesses is critical as we expand our reach across key markets. We are confident in his ability to drive consistent growth while preserving Apricorn’s reputation for delivering trusted, high-assurance security offerings.”

Toma most recently held executive leadership roles at Apace Systems. His appointment brings an operating focus to Apricorn as encrypted storage becomes part of resilience planning, offline backup strategies, controlled data transfer, and compliance-led deployment in mission-critical environments.

Apricorn’s core proposition differs from software-led encryption approaches by keeping the encryption process on the device itself. That can reduce deployment friction in locked-down IT environments, particularly where users do not have administrative privileges or where security teams want encrypted storage that remains independent from endpoint configuration.

“I am honoured to join Apricorn to help the company further serve customers. The company’s hardened and encrypted data vaults adhere to the highest industry standards which present us with a tremendous growth opportunity,” said Toma. “I’m excited to help Apricorn expand on its strong reputation for purpose-built security products that organisations rely on to protect sensitive data and enable its secure use across distributed environments.”

The company’s next growth phase will depend on converting rising demand for portable, offline, and independently encrypted storage into broader enterprise and government adoption. Secure storage remains a practical control point for sectors handling sensitive operational, medical, financial, or defence-related data.
