Sumitomo (SHI) Demag is sharpening its focus on Ireland’s medical manufacturing market, unveiling a series of cleanroom and high-speed injection moulding systems at Plastics Live Ireland 2025, taking place on 26–27 November at the RDS Arena in Dublin. The company will demonstrate a full suite of production technologies designed to lower energy use and cost per part while ensuring ISO 13485 compliance.
Central to the display is the IntElect medical series, an all-electric machine range built for high-precision medical moulding. Each model features locked user parameters to prevent unauthorised adjustment of temperature, pressure, and flow — critical for validation in regulated medical environments. The system is already used for applications such as pipette tips, vials, and drug delivery components, where repeatability and process control are paramount.
At recent trade shows, the company demonstrated the IntElect S 130t, producing 15 ml centrifuge tube caps in a 10-second cycle, and a 130t IntElect LSR system for liquid silicone rubber parts using autonomous robotics and camera inspection. Both exhibits highlighted the platform’s ability to sustain 24-hour production with tight tolerances.
Kris Thacker, Sales Manager for Ireland, said the modular platform allows processors to scale without excess footprint. “One of the key benefits of being able to select a smaller footprint machine that can handle larger shot weights are the rapid energy savings. Built for high speed and precision, it gives processors the flexibility to mould everything from small medical parts to larger components,” he noted.
Adding to the range, the 420 t PAC-E machine combines the precision of the IntElect with the fast-cycling performance of the hybrid El-Exis SP. According to UK and Ireland Head of Sales Ashlee Gough, the new clean toggle system “meets the strict hygiene demands stipulated in medical manufacturing,” offering injection speeds up to 550 mm/s and a three-second cycle capability for thin-walled medical cups and tubes.
For less hygiene-critical applications, the El-Exis SP remains the company’s benchmark for acceleration and throughput, delivering sub-two-second cycles and injection speeds of 1,000 mm/s. Its hybrid accumulator design enables manufacturers to cut raw material use and shipping costs by producing thinner, lighter parts.
Irish processors can see the technology in operation at Sumitomo (SHI) Demag’s Limerick showroom, which houses two high-speed IntElect S medical production cells — 100 t and 180 t — available for trials and validation runs.
