The German organisation Cyclos-HTP has certified Faerch’s CPET (Crystalline PET) dual ovenable trays as fully recyclable, solidifying the material’s status as a “Valuable Material” compatible with PET tray recycling systems. This recognition enhances Faerch’s history of securing certifications across various materials, reinforcing its dedication to promoting recyclability and advancing circular food packaging solutions.
Independent assessments have verified that CPET trays can be recycled as effectively as APET trays. Recycled PET from CPET food trays can be reintegrated into production processes without degrading the quality or performance of new products. This development underscores Faerch’s commitment to achieving true circularity in food packaging.
Earlier this year, Faerch’s MAPET II trays also received an independent recyclability certificate from Cyclos-HTP, with a recyclability rate of 98–99%. With the recent certification of CPET, Faerch expands its portfolio of accredited circular materials. These certifications not only highlight the company’s dedication to recyclability but also support compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, aiding customers in meeting sustainability and regulatory goals. As a recognised benchmark for recyclability across Europe, these certifications ensure industry-wide assurance and consistency.
Faerch’s CPET trays are extensively used in ready meal packaging, offering benefits such as oven and microwave safety, temperature resistance, and compliance with food safety standards. The new recyclability certification confirms that these trays can be collected, sorted, and recycled into new food packaging of the same high quality.
Achieving recyclability certification for CPET is a significant progression towards making food packaging genuinely circular. With both MAPET II and CPET trays now accredited, Faerch demonstrates that packaging can satisfy the highest functional demands while being fully recyclable back into new food packaging.
