Lightweight Amcor closure retains excellent performance for ketchup range

Amcor’s new Sava Flip Top closure selected for Polish ketchup. The recyclable TPE valve supports sustainability goals, while the closure delivers consumer convenience, material savings, and efficiency on existing filling lines. Local production ensures short lead times for supply.

Amcor (NYSE: AMCR, ASX: AMC), a global leader in developing and producing responsible packaging solutions, announced that the user-friendly and lightweighted design of its Sava Flip Top closure are the key reasons for its selection by one of the top-selling Polish ketchup brands, Kotlin.

Produced by Maspex, one of Central and Eastern Europe’s largest food and drink manufacturers, Kotlin is a modern brand with a rich tradition, renowned for its high quality and innovative recipes, and considered an expert in tomato products. Such a premium image also needs to be reflected in its packaging.

The Sava closure is lighter than the previous generation but still retains its reliability and durability for long-term usage. For maximum consumer convenience, it offers easy opening and closing. From the choice of valves available, Maspex has selected the TPE valve because it is more widely recyclable than traditional silicone valves, as well as ensuring no spill, non-drip dispensing and accurate directional control. This feature is highlighted in the brand’s latest advertising campaign, which humorously depicts how the barbecue is in the blood of the Polish people and that no barbecue is complete without Kotlin.

“We are delighted with our new closure,” said Sylwia Bębenek, buyer at Maspex. “It is much lighter than alternative versions currently available without compromising on performance. The technical team at Amcor worked closely with us to ensure that it was compatible with our bottles and could run efficiently on the existing filling line.”

The Sava closure is a 55 mm Flip Top cap with 38/400 neck finish and part of Amcor’s B Circular Range, designed for circularity to help brand owners meet and exceed their sustainability goals. It is available with a choice of orifices, valves and in different colors, to enable it to be tailored to individual customer requirements. Amcor can also supply complementary bottles for a complete pack.

For Kotlin, as well as delivering significant material savings through its lighter weight, the PP closure and its TPE valve can be recycled where appropriate recycling infrastructure is in place. It is being supplied in three colors – green, red and blue – for the different varieties of Kotlin ketchups in 450 g, 650 g, and 950 g bottle sizes.

“The versatility and convenience of our Sava closure makes it the ideal solution for all types of ketchups and sauces,” commented Bartosz Głodowski, Amcor’s regional sales leader, Poland. “Its ease of use and dispensing are particularly suitable for a premium brand like Kotlin, which is focused on maximizing the consumer experience.”

Amcor has invested in a new production line for the closure at its factory in Wola Rębkowska, Poland, providing localized supply and short lead times for Maspex.
