Kurtz Ersa Inc., a leading supplier of electronics production equipment, announced today that Joe Clure, Head of the Applications and Demo Center at the company’s North American headquarters, will present a technical paper titled “Selective Soldering Trends and Techniques for Complex Applications” at the SMTA Long Island Expo & Tech Forum.
The event will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Marriott Melville Long Island. Clure’s presentation will explore how today’s PCB designs and assembly requirements are pushing the limits of the selective soldering process. Drawing on decades of hands-on experience and extensive data, the talk will cover:
- Soldering high thermal mass PCBs and components
- Handling hidden internal layer connections with no thermal reliefs
- Working with flexible PCB materials
- Overcoming irregular pin-to-barrel ratios and unusual pin protrusions
- Adapting to shrinking package sizes and fine-pitch components
Attendees will gain insights into real-world applications and the techniques Kurtz Ersa has developed to maintain solder quality and reliability on complex assemblies.
Clure leads Kurtz Ersa’s Applications and Demo Center in Plymouth, Wisconsin. With more than 25 years in electronics manufacturing, he has extensive experience in selective soldering process development and advanced customer training. Prior to Kurtz Ersa, Clure served at Plexus Corp. as a Site Process Engineer and Regional Subject Matter Expert for Selective Soldering. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Engineering Program.
