Dutch consumers will have to become accustomed to half-and-half minced meat that consists of part pork and part beef mince, but now they have to become familiar with half-and-half products consisting of a combination of chicken and beef as well as products with added beef protein.

Albert Heijn introduced these products as both have lower CO2e emissions than regular beef products.

Albert Heijn will now offer beef-chicken products, minced meat and a half-and-half burger, with part beef from Dutch pasture-raised cows and part meat from 1-star Better Life chickens. The beef-chicken products have at least 37% fewer emissions per kg of product than the regular beef variants.

Albert Heijn is also introducing a new range with seven different products with added beef protein. The CO2e emission reduction for these products amounts to 9.3 kilotonnes of CO2e per year.

All these products are cheaper than the regular AH Hamburger, AH Minced Beef and AH Chipolata, among others. This means that customers can enjoy tasty meat with lower CO2e emissions for a lower price.

Anita Scholte op Reimer, director of sustainability & quality at Albert Heijn: “I am proud of this technological development that we have achieved together with our chain partners. These products have a lower climate impact, the customer pays less and you can’t taste any difference in taste.”
