Berry Global to showcase high-performance PE cling film at private label exhibition
Omni Xtra+, Berry Global’s high-performance PE cling film will be the key focus of the company’s stand at the forthcoming Marca by BolognaFiere Private Label Conference and Exhibition, to be held in Bologna, Italy in January 2024
Ideal for a variety of fresh food applications, including fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, deli and bakery products, the new Omni Xtra+ film offers improved elasticity, uniform stretching behaviour, and enhanced impact resistance compared to its previous versions.
These improved mechanical properties have also allowed for the production of a thinner overall film than traditional PVC alternatives – delivering a weight reduction of over 25% compared to PVC – while maintaining high levels of strength and puncture resistance.
In addition to its lighter weight, Omni Xtra+ is also recyclable where PE film collections exist and is in line with current European recycling guidelines, having received certification of recyclability and compatibility from RecyClass and Interseroh, both leading industrial organisations working to achieve plastics circularity.
Berry’s advanced manufacturing process has created a much higher clarity film than traditional PE cling films, including strong anti-fog and condensation properties, that are comparable to PVC. This enables products to be displayed to full advantage on retail shelves.
Omni Xtra+ also offers excellent machinability and high elastic retention power that deliver a strong seal to ensure a tight pack and excellent product fixation, while its ease of handling allows high throughputs on automatic packing machinery.
Berry says the new film represents a high-quality alternative solution to hard to recycle PVC films for private label manufacturers, offering usability and clarity while lowering packaging weights for improved yields and delivering effective product protection and maximum on-shelf appeal.
At the same time, Omni Xtra+ meets customer and consumer demands, as well as increasing legislative requirements, for more sustainable pack formats.
