Xenn energy management app launched in Belgium

The Xenn AI-based smart meter data-driven energy management app has been developed by re.alto to enable Belgian consumers to monitor their consumption and control their energy expenses.

The Xenn app, powered by re.alto’s Connect platform, originated in the introduction of a capacity-based grid tariff and what the company describes as “the incomprehensible evolution of advance payment in utility billing”.

Its first use cases are focussed on budget control and capacity tariff optimisation as two main needs of the end consumer.

To use Xenn the user needs to attach a P1 dongle to the P1 port on their smart meter and then connect to their dongle via the Xenn app and web portal.

The dongle reads the data from the meter 24/7 and provides the consumer with insight into their energy consumption at any time via the app.

Xenn also includes tariff information, giving the user insight into their costs.

With the capacity tariff in play, Xenn calculates the current costs of the user’s energy consumption, so that they can see how much the tariff will cost them.

The app also notifies about any peaks in consumption and consequent spikes in cost, while the dashboard enables the user to dig further into the detail of their consumption.

re.alto has indicated the intention to expand Xenn in the future for other energy management applications with other devices and assets such as electric vehicles, heat pumps and others as the need arises, which would enable further optimisation of the household’s energy use.

“[This is] making the most of the Internet of Things universe and enabling smarter consumption through connectivity,” the company said in a statement.

re.alto’s Connect platform is designed to enable the implementation of data driven software energy solutions with its API marketplace offering a wide range of use cases.
