Unigen Celebrates 30 Years as a Technology Leader in Silicon Valley

Unigen Corporation has announced that the company recently celebrated its 30-year anniversary, a rare milestone for privately held Silicon Valley technology companies. Headquartered in Newark, the company has been a leading producer of memory and storage products since 1991. Since its founding, Unigen has branched out into other areas, including new product segments such as NVDIMMs and Enterprise IO, while also expanding its manufacturing footprint to support the Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) business that it entered into more recently in the company’s tenure. Today, Unigen counts among its customers some of the leading companies in the Top Fortune 100.

Paul Heng is the original founder and CEO of Unigen, another rare feat for a technology entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. He shared, “Unigen is extremely proud to be celebrating our 30th anniversary. None of this would be possible of course without the trusted relationships we have built with our customers and partners. Just as important though has been the dedication and commitment of our employees to offering products and services that continue to add value with the quality and reliability that Unigen has come to be known for. To everyone that has had a hand in our success over these last 30 years – our employees, customers, partners, stakeholders and friends – I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for being a part of this journey. Here’s to another 30 fantastic years”.

Unigen was founded by Heng in his garage under the original name “Henusa”. It was shortly changed to Unigen after a trusted colleague he was doing business with in Asia mentioned that it roughly translated to “Chicken of USA” in Chinese. Starting as a broker in memory devices, Heng quickly came to the realization that manufacturing end-products was the best way to provide true value add to Unigen’s customers. From there, Unigen has expanded into new product areas, such as SSDs, NVDIMMs and Enterprise IO, with a primary focus on data center markets. Unigen has aggressively expanded its manufacturing capabilities and footprint in order to stay ahead of customer demand. To utilize this capacity to its fullest potential, around 2011 Unigen also entered into the EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) business, which has been very complementary to the OEM product business. Today, Unigen has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Newark, CA and Hanoi, Vietnam, along with five additional engineering and support facilities located around the globe.
