Scanfil is expanding its Mysłowice electronics manufacturing plant in Poland by 6,000 sq m after new customer wins and system-integration projects increased demand, taking the production complex to approximately 36,000 sq m when work is complete.
The additional space represents a 20% expansion and will make Mysłowice Scanfil’s largest European factory by floor area. The company expects the new facilities to become operational during the first quarter of 2028.
Mysłowice specialises in system integration, warehousing, and logistics and primarily supports the Central European market. That mix makes the expansion broader than another printed-circuit-board assembly investment, because complete-system work places substantially different demands on factory space and material handling.
Christophe Sut, chief executive of Scanfil, said: “Considering our new system integration projects and recent customer wins, we have decided to expand the Mysłowice plant by 20%.”
Scanfil reported 5.6% year-on-year organic growth in the first half of 2026 following four consecutive quarters of organic growth. The company has linked the expansion directly to those commercial gains rather than presenting it as speculative capacity ahead of unnamed future demand.
System integration changes the role of an electronics manufacturing services provider. Instead of delivering populated circuit boards to a customer for final assembly elsewhere, an EMS company may take responsibility for integrating electronics with enclosures, cabling, displays, sensors, power supplies, mechanical hardware, software, and other subsystems before shipment.
That moves more value and more supply-chain complexity into the contract manufacturer’s factory. Components that once travelled separately to an OEM must arrive at the EMS site in the correct sequence, while final assembly, functional testing, packaging, finished-goods storage, and outbound logistics all occupy more floor area than board-level production alone.
The Mysłowice site’s existing logistics role makes the extra 6,000 sq m particularly relevant. Larger assemblies create different storage and movement requirements, and a missing low-cost mechanical component or cable can prevent shipment of a much more valuable integrated system even when the electronics have already been built and tested.
That means warehouse planning becomes part of manufacturing performance. Inventory has to be staged around customer programmes, line-side replenishment must support assemblies with broader bills of materials, and finished systems may require more space and handling equipment than the compact electronics that sit inside them.
Test requirements also become more demanding as responsibility moves towards the finished product. A board-level test can confirm electrical functionality at a defined stage, while a complete system may require checks across electronics, software, communications, power architecture, sensors, and mechanical interfaces.
Faults discovered late in that process are usually more expensive to diagnose. If a finished unit fails, engineers must determine whether the cause sits in the PCB, software configuration, cabling, power supply, mechanical assembly, or another subsystem, which makes test design and traceability increasingly important as an EMS provider takes on more complex work.
Scanfil’s wider service portfolio already includes design support, prototyping, design-for-manufacturability work, test development, supply-chain services, circuit-board assembly, component and subsystem manufacture, and complex system integration. The Polish expansion adds physical capacity towards the latter end of that chain.
The company serves customers across aerospace and defence, energy and cleantech, industrial equipment, and medtech and life sciences. Those markets tend to demand longer product lifecycles, stronger documentation, and more controlled change management than mass-market consumer electronics, making manufacturing continuity and configuration discipline commercially significant.
Central Europe also remains an attractive location for regional manufacturing strategies. Poland offers access to established industrial labour and supply networks, while road links into Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and neighbouring markets shorten some transport routes compared with production sourced entirely from Asia.
Regionalisation does not make the supply chain local by default. Semiconductors, passives, connectors, displays, and other electronics may still arrive from global sources, but final integration closer to customers can reduce transport for larger assemblies and create more flexibility around engineering changes and finished-goods delivery.
Scanfil has not disclosed the capital cost of the Mysłowice project or identified the customers driving the increase, so the 6,000 sq m addition should not be translated into a revenue forecast. Floor area becomes useful manufacturing capacity only when equipment, trained staff, customer programmes, and supporting logistics occupy it.
The Q1 2028 target gives the company roughly 18 months to complete the enlargement and prepare it for production. By then, the relevant measure will be utilisation rather than square metres.
For Scanfil, the expansion is a bet that system integration will continue pulling more of the manufacturing value chain into EMS plants. The building itself is straightforward; filling it with qualified, repeatable customer work without creating new inventory or test bottlenecks is the part that determines whether the investment earns its keep.
