Vent-Axia has endorsed the Government’s introduction of the Healthy Homes Standard, a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at improving the design of residential properties. This standard, designed for use by Homes England and its collaborators, offers a framework for ensuring that new homes promote healthier living environments.
The standard’s emphasis on indoor air quality and ventilation is particularly noteworthy. It advocates for the use of high-efficiency Mechanically Ventilated Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems, which align with the Passivhaus standard, to support good health in modern, airtight homes. This approach highlights the increasing importance of fresh, filtered air and low-carbon ventilation technologies. Additionally, the standard mandates a whole life carbon assessment for both homes and broader development infrastructure.
Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Sentinel Econiq range meets these rigorous standards. The Passivhaus-accredited MVHR system offers excellent heat recovery and operates with a specific electric power as low as 0.22 Wh/m³. Its near-silent operation, verified by SRL, and newly published Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) provide transparency and assurance for specifiers and developers.
Joe Brawn, Product and Marketing Director at Vent-Axia, stated, “We are pleased to see that the Government’s new Healthy Homes Standard recognises the crucial role ventilation plays in improving indoor air quality and so helping protect households’ health. But the standard also goes one step further, stating the importance of highly efficient MVHR with low embodied carbon and low sound levels. Our Lo-Carbon Sentinel Econiq offers all this and more, making it the ideal choice for housebuilders looking for Healthy Homes compliant ventilation.”
The Healthy Homes Standard encompasses five themes, including efficiency and comfort. Objectives include ensuring good ventilation and indoor air quality, reducing operational energy use, and collecting in-use energy performance data. Vent-Axia’s systems achieve these goals, offering low-carbon heat recovery ventilation for new builds.
The Lo-Carbon Sentinel Econiq is available in various sizes and configurations, ensuring effective performance regardless of system pressure. Its Sentinel-X control platform, with an array of sensors and controls, optimises indoor air quality. Automated features such as intelligent humidistat, frost protection, and summer bypass enhance comfort and efficiency.
To further improve indoor air quality, the system includes ePM2.5 (F7) filters, aligning with Passivhaus design standards. These filters remove allergens and particulate matter while maintaining energy efficiency and system longevity. Vent-Axia’s Commissioning Wizard simplifies compliance with Part F of the Building Regulations, making the system user-friendly and straightforward to commission.
The Sentinel Econiq also offers advanced connectivity through the Vent-Axia Connect smartphone app, allowing homeowners to control ventilation remotely and adjust settings for optimal comfort and cost efficiency.
