German energy company EnBW has opted for a controllable local systems (CLS) software from Robotron to mitigate grid bottlenecks.
EnBW Utility Services customers will benefit from the new interface between grid and end customers, which will be used for interventions to avoid bottlenecks on the power grid.
EnBW cites in a release how the increasing amount of clean tech assets – such as wall boxes, heat pumps, air conditioning units, battery storage systems, and photovoltaic systems – has been placing high demands on power grids and on local grid operators.
This is where the CLS system comes in, enabling intervention when needed by controlling such devices remotely.
The agreement, which follows a successful EU-wide tender, sees Dresden-based Robotron Datenbank-Software’s system cover congestion control and fulfil the regulatory requirement to roll out control boxes.

Commenting in a release was Bettina Buchert, head of the EnBW Utility Services division: “With the new CLS management solution, we are creating an essential and modern interface between the energy transition in the grid and end customers – a highly relevant building block for a modern energy industry.
“We will also ensure the high quality and stability that we have already demonstrated as the second-largest gateway administrator service provider with over 150,000 smart metering systems for CLS management.”
Said Björn Heinemann, managing director of Robotron: “The successful tender and the collaboration with EnBW are a great opportunity for us to contribute and further expand our expertise in the field of CLS. By implementing our system, we guarantee a market-leading standard for CLS management.”
Through EnBW Utility Services’ CLS management with the Robotron system, all internal and external service customers benefit in two ways: They fulfill their obligation to be taxable and comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
At the same time, CLS management, as an economical and marketable system, supports the growth and development of grid operators.
EnBW Utility Services acts as a service provider for numerous grid and metering point operators within and outside the EnBW Group.
