Enel-owned Italian distribution company E-Distribuzione has constructed and commissioned its new Novara Est primary cabin, a remotely controlled and automated cabin the utilities says will significantly strengthen the distribution network.

The cabin represents an investment of approximately €6 million ($6.2 million), serving approximately 7,500 LV customers and 35 MV customers in the municipalities of Novara and Trecate in Italy.

The primary cabin extends over a surface area of over 5,800 square meters, with the delivery of a power equal to 80MVA, enabling the integration of new distributed renewable generation plants, as well as new industrial settlements.

According to E-Distribuzione in a release, the plant stands out for its innovative tech features with low environmental impact and attention to sustainability, namely waste management, the use of recycled materials, and installation of suitable measures to guarantee hydraulic invariance.

Commenting in a release was Vincenzo Ranieri: “We are firmly convinced of our essential contribution to the energy and industrial development of the country.

“The Novara Est Primary Cabin, which is part of a broader development and technological renewal plan designed for Novara and Piedmont, allows us to improve the quality of service in a strategic area for the city, make available new hosting capacity to support the growth of production from renewable sources and give the community a network more resilient to extreme weather events. Projects like this are a tangible example of the benefits that our investments bring to the territory.”

Said Alberto Gusmeroli, president of the 10th Commission of the Chamber of Deputies: “The new cabin is an example of excellence.

“Also for its ability to fit into an increasingly advanced electrical system: even in the event of particularly intense meteorological phenomena, in fact, the plant and the local electrical system downstream of it will guarantee greater continuity of service and a reduction in re-powering times, thus responding even better to the needs of Citizens and the Territory.”
