WEG launches latest VSD at Drives & Controls

~ Motors, drives and digital technologies exhibited in UK ~

Motor and drive manufacturer, WEG will launch its new CFW900 variable speed drive (VSD) at Drives & Controls 2022. The exhibition is held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from April 5 to 7 and is a key event for automation engineers in all industries. WEG can be found at booth E110, exhibiting the new VSD, several motor ranges and the new portfolio of WEG digital apps.

Drives & Controls will see the launch of the CFW900 drive to the UK and Ireland market. The model is the latest addition to the well-established CFW range of frequency inverters, and boasts a simplified design, increased power density and improved ease-of-use that allows the user to access configurations and technical data in a fast and straightforward way.

The CFW900 can also collaborate with a range of digital tools recently launched by WEG, including Motion Fleet Management (MFM) which will be demonstrated at booth E110.

MFM is a control and monitoring tool for the operation of industrial assets, using cloud computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Through asset monitoring and a combination of edge and in cloud data processing, MFM generates valuable real-time insights on motors, drives and other industrial assets to share with plant managers and engineers.

MFM operates alongside WEG Motor Scan and WEG Drive Scan — sensors to monitor the vibration, temperature and running hours of their respective assets. These technologies collect and transmit operational data and communicate with MFM to provide operational insights to engineers and plant managers.

“Digital technologies are becoming increasingly present in all manufacturing operations,” explained Marek Lukaszczyk, marketing manager for WEG Europe and the Middle East. “The new digital portfolio from WEG has been developed to fulfil increased customer demand. Our goal is to help plant managers improve their plant efficiency and better manage maintenance through digital solutions.”

When discussing the new CFW900 drive, Lukaszczyk continued, “A key part of WEG’s ethos is to help our customers meet their efficiency goals — and adequate frequency inverters are a key part of this. The new CFW900 is compatible with the WEG’s EcoDrive app, which allows users to monitor, set parameters, program, and simulate the efficiency of their system on their mobile phone.”

Alongside these technologies, WEG will exhibit the WG20 range of geared motors at Drives & Controls. This is the first geared motor range to be completely developed in-house by WEG. The range comprises helical, parallel shaft and helical bevel gear units with torques between 50 and 18,000 Nm.

WG20 motors are suitable for a vast range of applications and have been developed to meet the industry standard gearbox footprint. As such, the range is hailed as an effective option for upgrading faulty or old gearboxes quickly, even if the installed gearbox isn’t originally from WEG.
