Vetus reveals 48V DC Bow thrusters

Maritime technology company Vetus has launched its Bow Pro Boosted units, the 385 (BOWB385) and the Bow Pro Boosted 420 (BOWB420).

Designed for 400mm tunnels, the fully proportional brushless DC thrusters are stated to be the most powerful of their kind available with 48V DC compatibility. Released to expand the company’s Bow Pro model line-up, the thrusters have been developed for installation to larger vessels ranging from 25m to 40m long.

With a peak power output of 385kgf for the BOWB385 and 420kgf for the BOWB420 at 48V, the thrusters enable precise proportional control for vessel operators and ensure that the thruster system can be used for docking and maneuvering without overheating or overuse.

The Vetus BOWB units benefit from an intelligent motor controller with an integrated boost function to charge the bow thrusters’ batteries using the company’s internal three-stage charging process. Due to this design, the system can be connected to a 24V power supply to recharge the 48V battery bank. Furthermore, the Vetus motor controller also regulates the brushless induction motors to ensure the thrusters are efficient and quiet during use.

Featuring active heat control and a low power consumption, the BOWB thrusters can be used for as long as the installed battery pack size will enable. The propulsion systems are plug and play with the company’s own V-CAN system for ease of installation and maintenance.
