Tridonic’s intelligent lighting aids Distillers Building renovation

Tridonic UK enhances Dublin’s Distillers Building with advanced lighting. The project, in partnership with ACEC Distributors, showcases how intelligent lighting technology supports flexibility, sustainability, and compliance in modern commercial environments. The seven-storey office’s adaptable system ensures energy efficiency and long-term operational success.

Tridonic UK has played a pivotal role in the renovation of the Distillers Building in Smithfield, Dublin, delivering an advanced lighting control solution in collaboration with ACEC Distributors. This project exemplifies the integration of intelligent, future-proof lighting technology to support flexibility, sustainability, and long-term compliance in modern commercial settings.

The historic Distillers Building has been transformed into a contemporary seven-storey office space, accommodating multiple government departments. The redevelopment required a versatile lighting control system that could provide granular control, robust data, and sustained operational efficiency. Tridonic, working closely with ACEC, installed a comprehensive wired DALI-2 lighting control solution throughout the building. Logical zoning facilitates future reconfiguration, allowing the system to adapt to changing occupancy and usage needs.

The installation includes Tridonic sceneCOM EVO DA2 application controllers, MSensor G3 PIR sensors, DALI-2 XCG3 pushbutton couplers, DALI-2 scene plates, and high-efficiency DALI-2 LED drivers. Managed by Tridonic’s lightMONITOR software, the system offers a graphical overview of lighting assets, automated emergency testing, and detailed compliance reporting.

Sustainability was a primary focus, with Tridonic’s generation 4 drivers and boards being C2C approved to reduce embodied carbon, achieving average driver efficiencies over 92%. Intelligent presence detection and daylight-responsive dimming ensure lighting is used only when necessary, significantly reducing energy consumption while maintaining high visual comfort.

Paul O’Connor, Managing Director at ACEC, stated, “Tridonic’s control solutions have enabled us to deliver a highly flexible and future-ready lighting system that supports the client’s sustainability ambitions. The availability of detailed energy and usage data also allows us to carry out post-occupancy evaluation and identify further opportunities for energy savings.”

James Huntington, OEM Controls & Solutions Manager at Tridonic, added, “This project highlights the importance of intelligent lighting control in achieving both sustainability and long-term performance. We are proud to support ACEC with a solution that not only enhances the quality of the working environment but also provides the data, efficiency, and compliance required for a modern commercial building.”

The Distillers Building now stands as an exemplar of how intelligent lighting technology can support heritage-led redevelopment while meeting the demands of contemporary, sustainable office spaces.
