The industry-leading Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe opens next month

Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe opens next month at the RAI Amsterdam, June 20, 21 & 22, 2023. The world’s leading exhibition and conference for marine electrification, decarbonization, hybridization, future fuels and low-carbon shipping solutions will host more than 200 exhibitors, a dedicated conference with more than 100 speakers and the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards ceremony to honor the world’s finest engineers, innovations and products within the electric and hybrid marine industry. This year’s event has some new added benefits – keep reading to learn more!

The latest and next-generation electric and hybrid marine transportation and propulsion technologies will be on display. These include a versatile new series battery system with a modular design that allows for customization to meet project needs, making it ideal for retrofitting vessels; a turnkey high-power DC charging system, which consists of a high-power electronic module, a megawatt charging system (MCS) and an MCS inlet installed on vessels; a 48V electric motor for sail and power boats, which operates at a low voltage and therefore requires no high-voltage safety measures for integration and maintenance; a rotor sail, which significantly reduces fuel costs and emissions, as confirmed by independent third-party verifiers such as ABB, NAPA and Lloyd’s Register; and tailor-made shore power and charging solutions, which offer environmentally friendly responses to the energy demands of ports and ships, eliminating harmful emissions, vibrations, noise and air pollution. The newest and most innovative technologies will also be recognized at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Awards (now in their eighth year), which will be presented during a live ceremony in Hall 8 on Tuesday, June 20. There is a host of new categories that reflect the scale of innovation across the maritime propulsion industry. Just like the exhibition, the awards ceremony and the networking drinks party are completely free to attend. CONFERENCE
With more than 100 speakers, the world’s leading conference for marine electrification, decarbonization, hybridization, future fuels and low-carbon shipping solutions draws together experts from across the globe (rates apply). Key highlights include a presentation from Peter Rampen, principal research engineer at Damen Shipyards, on ‘Megawatt charging of ships – connections beyond the hull’; and a deep dive into the ‘Electrification of ships – new developments in fuel cell, battery and hydrogen storage’ from Julien Boulland, leader of sustainable shipping at Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore. A dedicated Business Cases and Strategies conference track is a new addition for this year, providing more discussion time and analysis of actual experiences and lessons learned from live projects across the sector. One extended presentation on this track is ‘Stakeholder perspectives and strategies for integrating alternative technologies through the lifetime of a vessel’, during which Malte Zeretzke, head of R&D at Carnival Maritime, Jan-Erik Räsänen, head of new technologies at Foreship and Dr Manfred Stefener, managing director at Freudenberg e-Power Systems, will present their perspectives and open the floor to questions and discussion from the audience.

Organizations participating in the conference include the Port of Dover, DNV, GE Power Conversion, Port of Amsterdam, Kongsberg Maritime, Polish Register of Shipping, Rolls-Royce, Siemens Energy and Volvo Penta Marine.

Another feature of the show is the co-located Autonomous Ship Expo and Conference. The conference will provide a platform for ship designers, classification societies, fleet owners, naval architects, research organizations and equipment suppliers to discuss the developments needed to make autonomous operation a reality, thereby improving efficiency.
