Space-Comm Expo Scotland readies for launch

Scotland hosts its largest space industry event next month. Space-Comm Expo Scotland will showcase cutting-edge technology and address global space challenges. The event follows a UK Government report urging strategic action to capitalise on space economy opportunities.

The space industry is poised for a significant gathering in Scotland, with Space-Comm Expo Scotland set to take place at the SEC Glasgow from 3-4 December. The event will feature over 2,300 delegates, 100 speakers, and 80 exhibitors, highlighting the latest advancements in space technology and tackling the pressing challenges of the global space industry.

This gathering comes on the heels of a report from the House of Lords UK Engagement with Space Committee, titled ‘The Space Economy, Act Now or Lose Out’. The report calls for decisive action from the UK Government to secure a leading role in the burgeoning space economy. Baroness Ashton, Chair of the Space Committee, remarked, “Only the most strategic and forward-looking nations will capture the economic and scientific rewards of this new space age. With the right leadership, co-ordination, and investment, the UK can be there. Space is transforming the world.”

Space-Comm Expo Scotland offers free registration for the exhibition, with a premium pass required for access to the conference and forums. Organisers urge potential attendees to register promptly to secure participation in one of the UK’s key space industry events.

Colin Baldwin, CEO of UKspace, the official trade association of the UK space industry, stated, “Space-Comm Expo Scotland offers a unique opportunity for companies to showcase the breadth of expertise across the sector, as well as for delegates to network with industry and government stakeholders.”

The programme will feature keynote speakers from NASA, the UK Space Agency, the Scottish Government, and Space Scotland. Attendees can expect a range of sessions, including panel discussions, networking opportunities, and exhibitions from over 30 nations. The event will also host a Meet-The-Buyer programme, providing direct access to industry leaders, along with symposiums on investment and space law.

The UK space industry is currently valued at £18.6 billion, with nearly 20% of the GDP depending on space connectivity and satellite data, crucial for communications, security, navigation, and more. The industry’s significance is underscored by the House of Lords’ call to action, emphasising the need for strategic investment in space infrastructure.

Scotland’s space industry is among the fastest-growing in Europe, with ambitions for rocket launches from SaxaVord Spaceport in The Shetlands, and contributions from companies like Skyrora, Orbex, AAC Clyde Space, Spire Global, and Alba Orbital.

Space-Comm Expo is organised in partnership with ADS Group, with support from government and industry sponsors, to foster collaboration and investment. The event is a pivotal platform for the global space industry, drawing leaders and influencers to Glasgow this December.
