Siemens to produce 1 million EV chargers for US market by 2025
Technology company Siemens has made a commitment to expand its manufacturing capabilities for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the US over the next four years.
The company says it will produce over 1 million electric vehicle chargers for the US to support the country’s transition to electric vehicles. The announcement follows President Joe Biden’s recent order aimed at ensuring that 50% of all vehicle sales in the US be electric by 2030.
John DeBoer, head of Siemens eMobility solutions and Future Grid Business in North America, said: “We’re incredibly encouraged by the continued commitment from the Administration and the Senate’s bipartisan approval of a historic $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which includes a $7.5 billion investment to construct electric vehicle stations.”
Siemens will expand its manufacturing capabilities as part of the company’s strategic plan to meet accelerating electric vehicle charging demand and increase transportation electrification job opportunities at all levels in the US.

The company is currently evaluating sites to develop its manufacturing facility for AC electric vehicle chargers. The site is expected to be operational as early as 2022, will be Siemens’ third U.S. eMobility hub, and is projected to support 100 jobs across the manufacturing site and regional supply chain.
The plant will serve as a counterpart to Siemens’ existing operations in Wendell, North Carolina, where the company manufactures DC chargers for buses, trucks, and heavy-duty electric vehicles.
To help equip the US workforce with smart mobility skills, Siemens’ Wendell business is partnering with educational institutions including North Carolina State University and Wake Tech Community College for training and workforce development.
Through the Siemens eMobility Partner Ecosystem, the company is working with more than 25 EV service providers, installers and project developers, EV original equipment manufacturers, and more to fully support the future of transportation electrification.
Commenting on the launch of the programme in March 2021, John DeBoer, added: “With this programme, Siemens is integrating a broad and talented suite of partners that will enable and accelerate the transportation electrification market.
“Relying on initiatives like this ecosystem approach is an integral step in the right direction in our journey as a country and around the world to achieve a truly accessible and equitable EV future.”
