SailGP and RS Electric Boats join forces to reduce support boat emissions

To accelerate a transition toward clean energy and to become the most sustainable sports and entertainment property, SailGP will charter a fleet of Pulse 63 electric boats for Season 3.

The boats will be supplied by RS Electric Boats and will consist of four Pulse 63 electric RIBs which are 100% electric, resulting in zero-emission operations. The vessels produce a small amount of wake, are virtually silent, and are also oil-free meaning there is no risk of water pollution taking place.

The RIB’s design consists of an aerodynamic hull form which is capable of supporting the weight of the batteries while still enabling fast acceleration up to a speed of 23kts. Furthermore, the Pulse 63 is easily serviced and can be charged in under two hours via a combined charging system and are said to have an ample range.

Collaboratively, RS Electric Boats and SailGP aim to inspire the use of electric propulsion within the sailing and maritime sectors.

Jon Partridge, RS Electric Boats commercial CEO, said, “It is an absolute privilege to team up with SailGP and be a part of their transition to a zero-emission support fleet.”

“All at SailGP are excited to partner with RS Electric Boats on our journey towards a zero-emissions support fleet,” said Julien Di Biase, chief operating officer, SailGP. “It’s been a privilege to work with RS Sailing alongside the SailGP Inspire Program, and this is an excellent addition to the relationship.”

“SailGP is committed to have its entire on-water footprint powered by clean energy propulsion by 2025,” commented Tom Verity, On Water Transition Manager at SailGP. “We recognize the high-performance capabilities of the Pulse 63 and are thrilled to be working with RS electric to deliver on this progressive commitment.”
