NES partners with Power Africa on smart metering and renewables

Networked Energy Services Corporation (NES), a global smart grid solution provider, has been selected as an official partner of Power Africa, a US-based government-led partnership, coordinated by USAID.

NES will help Power Africa to further expand into Africa, with projects in the DRC, Ghana, South Africa, and elsewhere.

NES and Power Africa will develop and implement smart grid and smart metering projects to reduce energy losses, improve revenue.

The two will assist each other with generating project funding for adding MWs and new connections.

Mark Carrato, Power Africa Coordinator, said: “Collaboration with the private sector is core to achieving Power Africa’s mission to end energy poverty.

“We are excited to announce our official partnership with the US-based Networked Energy Services and supporting their efforts to bring smart metering solutions to electricity grids across sub-Saharan Africa.”

Larry Colton, Director of International Business Development and Government Affairs, added: “NES is excited about the future possibilities and the synergy that will come from our partnership with Power Africa. This partnership will help NES expand the deployment of smart grid and smart metering solutions that will help utilities in Africa reduce losses, improve energy efficiency and improve electricity service.”

NES is committed to sustainable value creation and delivery by aligning its business strategy to meet societal needs while reducing environmental impact and advancing social development.

This commitment is embedded in NES at every level and a fundamental part of its values. NES is interested in working with utilities in the region to help them deploy smart metering and smart grid solutions in order to reduce losses, improve energy efficiency, and improve service.

In addition, the NES technology allows utilities and their customers to implement load conservation strategies and integrate renewable generation alternatives.

This will enable NES to assist with generating project funding and support the objectives of Power Africa to add 30,000 megawatts (MW) of installed generation capacity and 60 million new home and business connections in sub-Saharan Africa.
