Morocco’s ONEE to optimise smart meter data management with Atos and Siemens

In Morocco, state utility ONEE is partnering with technology firms Atos and Siemens to deploy a smart energy metering system that will enable smart meter data acquisition, processing, management and use.

The metering platform will enable ONEE to deploy data-driven, innovative services by leveraging over 100,000 smart meters that will be deployed for consumers.

The project is expected to enable smart management of the local grid, accurate energy billing, optimal consumer energy efficiency and management and automated grid infrastructure management capabilities.

The smart meters will help accelerate the energy transition in Morocco, pave the way for increased deployment of renewables and help ONEE to meet customer expectations and demand for digital and smart grid services. This will also help to decarbonise the country’s energy sector.

The project is part of Morocco’s Energy Efficiency programme and will include Atos providing the IT infrastructure and security systems whilst Siemens will provide its EnergyIP meter data management solution.

The project supports Morocco’s national grid modernisation and transformation agenda and is Atos and Siemens’ biggest smart grid initiative in Africa.
