MGS uses Interplas for expansion push

MGS will use Interplas to underline its post-buyout expansion plans.

MGS Technical Plastics will present its expanded injection moulding, tooling, procurement, and engineering capability at Interplas 2026, following a period of ownership change, site growth, and investment at its Lancashire operation.

The Blackburn-based plastics manufacturer will exhibit on stand Q81 at the NEC Birmingham event, which runs from 2–4 June 2026. The company is taking its largest exhibition stand to date and will bring specialists from sales and marketing, procurement, toolmaking, engineering, and production to the show.

The appearance follows the full management buyout completed in January 2026, when Judson Smythe, Mark Preston, and Neil Garrity acquired the business from John Sturgess. Since then, MGS has expanded its manufacturing footprint, invested in new machinery, and developed its in-house tool room to strengthen technical control across design, tooling, moulding, and assembly.

“This provides a unique opportunity for attendees to meet the people behind our business, ask questions and gain insight into MGS’s expansion, the enhancement of our capabilities and our dedication to innovation,” said Chloe Maine, Business Development Manager at MGS Technical Plastics.

MGS will structure its stand around daily operational themes. The opening day will cover sales, marketing, engineering, and design projects, including work with new materials, advanced moulding techniques, material selection, and process optimisation. The second day will focus on procurement support and the company’s approach to balancing value, manufacturing standards, and customer requirements across its supply base.

The final day will centre on tooling, including the company’s expanded in-house capability and dedicated tool room. MGS says the added toolmaking capacity is supporting faster prototyping and product development, giving customers a more direct route from early-stage design to production tooling.

The company has also reported a near-50% reduction in CO2 emissions over five years, supported by investment in more efficient equipment and site improvements. The reduction sits alongside recent business wins, diversification of its technical product portfolio, and expansion into additional units.

“This has been an unprecedented 18 months. Alongside countless business wins, diversification of our technical product portfolio, expansion into more units and investments in new machinery, we have reduced our CO2 emissions by nearly 50% in five years. It has been a collective effort and we are eager for you to meet the people that have helped us every step,” said Judson Smythe, Managing Director at MGS Technical Plastics.
