Hexagon unveils cloud tooling integration for machining

Hexagon advances mould and die machining with tool integration. The new integration between WORKNC CAM software and the cloud-based Tool Library enhances programming efficiency, providing machinists with reliable tooling data and reducing setup time. This development addresses industry challenges of complex parts and limited skilled personnel.

Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division has launched a pivotal advancement for the mould and die sector, integrating its WORKNC CAM software with a cloud-based Tool Library. This integration empowers CAM programmers by providing access to validated tooling data and proven machining methods, facilitating faster programming and more predictable results on intricate parts.

The industry faces mounting pressure due to increasing part complexity, tighter tolerances, and a shortage of experienced programmers. Hexagon addresses these challenges by integrating enhanced workflow automation in WORKNC with centralised, validated cutting-tool information from leading tool manufacturers. This development reduces the need for recreating tooling assemblies and maintaining fragmented data.

Steffen Dilger, President of Hexagon’s Production Software Division, stated, “Reliable tooling information is one of the most powerful levers for reducing programming time and eliminating variability. As manufacturers adopt more advanced automation and AI-assisted programming, centralised and high-quality tool data will play an increasingly critical role.”

The Tool Library offers WORKNC users direct access to verified cutting-tool data from a growing network of tooling partners. This integration allows programmers to incorporate tooling information directly into their CAM environment, reducing setup time and ensuring digital tool definitions match actual cutting performance.

Dr. Carlonda Reilly, Chief Technology Officer at Kennametal, remarked, “This integration helps manufacturers adopt smarter, more efficient digital workflows.” Tobias Unosson from Sandvik Coromant added, “With validated data at your fingertips, shops can standardise, reduce setup time, and maintain consistent best practices.”

The platform’s cloud-based architecture supports scalability and consistency across thousands of tool items. It also enables accurate digital twins of tools and assemblies, automatic application of material-specific cutting data, and standardised tooling definitions across teams.

Hexagon has also introduced enhancements in WORKNC 2025.4, including a new Parallel Finishing algorithm for improved geometry accuracy and simplified programming features that enhance detection of remaining material. These improvements are designed to fit seamlessly into existing processes, allowing manufacturers to modernise at their own pace.

The latest WORKNC release and Tool Library integration are now available. Customers can access the update via Hexagon’s official channels or contact their Hexagon representative for further details.
