Fire safety this Christmas

Smoke alarm battery manufacturer Ultralife Corporation has created an infographic outlining some startling festive fire statistics, as well as offering a few safety tips to hoteliers ahead of the peak holiday season. This infographic informs hotel managers of the risks they face, while emphasising the importance of installing proper smoke alarm batteries. The infographic is available to view on the Ultralife Corporation blog.

One of the busiest travel times is over the Christmas break, which leads to an increase in people staying at hotels, both domestically and internationally. In addition to the surge in guest numbers, there is also an increase in the use of electrical items (such as light up decorations) over the Christmas season, which means that hotel managers must be extra vigilant about fire safety.

Ultralife Corporation’s infographic is designed to help hotel managers minimise the risk of festive fires. Ultralife’s advice includes keeping natural fir trees watered to avoid dryness, safety testing any electrical equipment and ensuring an effective smoke alarm battery is in place for peace of mind.

“Christmas is a time to relax for many people,” said Robert Brown, marketing executive at Ultralife. “But it is also a season where hoteliers must be extra vigilant to ensure the safety of guests. Even with fire safety training widely adopted, there is still an startling number of fires each festive season.

“Although we hope that this guidance will help to reduce that, in the unfortunate event that a fire does occur, smoke alarms are invaluable for alerting staff and guests. Therefore, installing a high-performance battery is essential. That is why Ultralife, a specialist in manufacturing batteries for mission-critical applications from military to medical, has been producing smoke alarm batteries for 30 years.”

Ultralife was the first company to develop a long-lasting 9V lithium battery, which the company has enhanced over the last 30 years without compromising its 10-year service life. Over 100 million of Ultralife’s 9V batteries have been sold worldwide, which should reassure hotel managers that they are reliable.

In recent years, following improvements in electronics that allow more smoke alarms to use 3V cells rather than 9V, Ultralife launched its CR123A battery. Ultralife’s CR123A offers a low self-discharge, which increases its overall performance and reliability, giving further comfort to hotel managers.
