Energy storage cryptocurrency miner launched

Canadian battery tech companies Extreme Vehicle Battery Technologies and subsidiary IONiX Pro Battery Technologies have launched the Smart Miner.

The Smart Miner is an energy storage system claimed as the world’s first carbon-negative cryptominer.

The Smart Miner utilises the so-called Renewable Obligation Base energy economy (ROBe2) protocol, which is based on blockchain smart contracts that create an obligation to generate renewable energy each time the underlying token is mined and transacted.

The Smart Miner is based on the IONiX’s newly launched Pro Home SmartWall battery offering with modification to verify the generation and consumption of renewable energy, according to a statement. This is achieved with the company’s advanced battery management system and real-time AI.

“The Smart Miner takes the best aspects of battery technology, cryptocurrency mining technology and renewable energy, and rolls them into a device that potentially has significant disruptive power,” says IONiX Pro Chief Innovation Officer, Robert Abenante.

He adds that the Smart Miner is well suited for any household looking to store renewable energy or generate passive income from mining cryptocurrency, but it has been purposely designed to target developing countries, where access to electricity is lacking in many homes.

Smart Miner design features include being compact, affordable and easy to install.

The ROBe2 protocol is mined using the Proof of Renewable (PoR) mining protocol. PoR, which is patent pending, provides both verification of renewable energy sourcing and use as well as incentivisation of renewable energy generation and consumption in the form of tokens from the renewable mining pool to miners.

The ROBe2 protocol contributes 3% of each transaction towards the mining pool, which is administered and managed independently through the Renewable Energy Alliance, an ecosystem that advocates the global use of renewable energy.

The Smart Miner is expected to be the first device capable of mining the ROBe2 protocol.
