Energy data and digitalisation key topics at Enlit Europe in Milan

Whilst stakeholders within the European energy sector are struggling with challenges including distributed energy resources integration, soaring energy prices, climate change, the energy transition, and changing consumer behaviour/demands and business models, what measures can be implemented to address market constraints?

According to stakeholders within the European market, digitalisation and data will play a key role in the energy transition and digital transformation across the bloc. Therefore, the role of digitalisation and data analytics in delivering system efficiency is one of the key discussion points during presentations at Enlit Europe in Milan from 30 November to 02 December.

Energy data access

A session entitled What if data would be accessible to all stakeholders? will explore how secure and open data sharing amongst utilities and energy stakeholders paves way for modernisation of services in line with changing consumer expectations and market challenges and trends.

The session will look at issues such as cybersecurity and consumer data privacy, and data usage, accessibility and ownership within the energy market.

Digitalisation and changing customer behaviour

According to Zsuzsanna Pato, a senior advisor at the Regulatory Assistance Project in Europe, “consumers are a key resource to keep the costs of the energy transition down” and to meet goals set under the Fit for 55 and Green Deal packages.

However, what if consumer demands and changes in their behaviour due to factors such as COVID-19 and climate change are challenging utility operations? Where should energy companies turn to in optimising operations whilst addressing challenges associated with changing consumer demands?

An Enlit Europe session entitled COVID and changing customer behaviour will discuss how utilities can leverage digitalisation to achieve grid reliability and turn consumer demands and expectations into opportunities.

Speakers include:

Sarah Merrick, the CEO and founder of Ripple Energy
Philip Lewis, Co-Founder and Director – The Traxis Group
Andrea Scognamiglio, Head of Global e-home – Enel X
Marine Cornelis, Executive Director – New Energy Consumer

The speakers will discuss the impact of changes in consumer demands on the market and how consumers will shape energy market trends in future.
