Emerson has launched Emerson Synchros, an Industrial Internet of Things platform that extends wireless asset monitoring across existing industrial facilities without requiring major infrastructure changes.
Many process operations still rely on periodic manual rounds for inspection points that are too costly, remote, or awkward to instrument conventionally. Synchros gives those measurements a wireless route into asset health monitoring programmes, allowing maintenance and operations teams to track developing conditions between scheduled checks.
The initial release includes the Rosemount Synchros Temperature Monitor and the Rosemount Synchros Wireless Repeater. Using WirelessHART technology, the temperature monitor captures surface and ambient temperature data, while the repeater extends network coverage for broader plant deployment.
Andrew Kravitz, vice president, cross-portfolio technology and innovation at Emerson, said: “Teams have long faced a trade-off between visibility and the cost of instrumenting assets. Synchros devices address these issues by providing end users with a fit-for-purpose method to digitise inspection programmes, expand visibility at scale, and move from periodic checks to continuous insight to drive more efficient and reliable operations.”
Process industries including chemical, oil and gas, power, life sciences, and water and wastewater are the primary markets for the platform. Emerson has identified pumps, heat exchangers, rotating equipment, steam systems, and heat tracing systems as early use cases, where abnormal temperature behaviour can provide a useful indicator of mechanical, process, or reliability problems.
Further devices and connectivity options are planned as the platform develops. Future releases are expected to add measurements for additional process parameters, including pressure, and extend the architecture to distributed assets such as water networks, wastewater systems, and power grid infrastructure.
Built for hazardous locations and demanding plant conditions, Synchros combines rugged hardware with simplified installation to reduce deployment complexity and training requirements. Further details are available through Emerson’s Synchros product page.
