Cavotec says that it has won a series of orders worth €5m (US$6m) to equip the world’s largest new-build container ships with its ShorePower systems. The latest contracts are in addition to the company’s €3m (US$3.6m) worth of orders in the first quarter of the year.

“We’re proud to support the world’s major container shipping lines in their journey toward sustainable operations,” commented Mikael Norin, CEO of Cavotec. “As the leading supplier of shore power systems, Cavotec is trusted to provide worldwide connection compatibility for vessels using shoreside power supply.”

One of the world’s largest shipbuilders, MSC, and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) make up a large percentage of the orders. Cavotec will supply PowerAMPReels for MSC, SHI and several others.

The majority of orders are for systems to be fitted to new-build container ships with a capacity of 24,000 TEU, set for use within international shipping lines. The PowerAMPReels systems also include weatherproof enclosures, and one ShorePower system will be installed on the port side and one on the starboard side of each vessel to enable fast and safe connection to shoreside electricity where available.
