Basement smart water metering solution implemented in Toronto

Canadian energy services company Provident has reported completing a smart water metering implementation in Toronto.

The wireless solution from Trilliant was selected for basement metering for a townhouse complex in the city.

The technology deployed on Trilliant’s AMI platform enables the connection of the water meters to a water meter interface unit (MIU), which is then read wirelessly at the access point.

Typically installation in basements or other hard to reach areas can prove challenging, both for wired solutions with the need to run wires through floors and walls and for wireless with the limited penetration through these.

“Provident is committed to providing the very best in service to our customers,” said Ralph Simone, president at Provident Energy Management, which works across the Greater Toronto area.

“To do so, we rely on cutting-edge technology and solutions like Trilliant’s smart water platform to enable our business.”

Trilliant’s smart water metering solution is a key part of the company’s smart building initiative to deliver connectivity in buildings including electrical and thermal applications while empowering building owners to better manage infrastructure without intrusive wired installations.

A standout feature is that the individual MIUs don’t need to be in proximity to each other, just within reach of the access point.

Another is that the MIUs can be programmed to interface with meters across a multitude of brands.

The company reports having successfully implemented similar solutions in Chile, Dominican Republic, Peru, Japan and the United Kingdom.
