Actran Diffuse Sound Field (DSF) demo

Actran, from MSC Software, is an acoustics simulation software, originally designed for predicting noise within, and around vehicles, such as cars and aircraft.

One interesting capability, developed with a Space industry client, is the ability to simulate the effects of a diffuse sound field – such as what is experienced by the payload during a rocket launch.  Historically this random acoustic loading has been simulated using pressure loads in a frequency response finite element analysis (FEA), but this ignores the effect of shortening wavelengths as the frequency of the sound increases, leading to conservative designs.

The capability in Actran can be used by non-experts via a simple wizard tool as demonstrated in this short video.
