Freudenberg completes acquisition of Balmoral Comtec

Balmoral has completed Comtec’s sale to Freudenberg Flow Technologies today. The Aberdeen-based polymer engineering specialist will continue operating from its existing locations, with continuity expected across contracts, staffing, delivery schedules, and customer contacts.

Balmoral Group has completed the sale of Balmoral Comtec to Freudenberg Flow Technologies, bringing the Aberdeen-based offshore energy specialist into a global industrial group focused on sealing, connectors, and flow technology.

Comtec will continue operating from its existing locations, with no immediate changes to its name, day-to-day activity, customer contracts, delivery schedules, staffing levels, or points of contact. That continuity gives customers and employees a stable transition as the business moves from Balmoral ownership into Freudenberg’s wider industrial structure.

The company provides concept development, design, engineering, manufacturing, and testing of polymer-based product solutions for oil and gas, renewables, and offshore energy applications. Since its formation in 1980, Comtec has delivered more than 4,500 projects, with around 80% carried out internationally, and now employs more than 400 people across Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Houston.

Sir Jim Milne CBE, Chairman at Balmoral Group, said: “We are pleased to have found a buyer in Freudenberg that shares our values, our commitment to innovation and our belief in the strength of Comtec’s people.”

Balmoral said the sale will allow Comtec to continue its development with the backing of a global industrial group, while enabling Balmoral Group to sharpen its focus on long-term investment activity. Profits from the group’s strategy support community and charitable work through the Milne Family Foundation and Friends of ANCHOR.

Freudenberg gains a specialist offshore engineering business with established polymer product expertise, international project experience, and a customer base in markets where technical assurance and long-term support remain critical. The acquisition also expands Freudenberg Flow Technologies’ position in offshore energy, where reliability and material performance are central to project delivery.

Jason Kollatschny, CEO Connectors and Sealing Solutions at Freudenberg Flow Technologies, said: “Under Balmoral Group’s ownership, Comtec has developed into a highly respected specialist in offshore energy solutions, with a strong track record of innovation, technical performance and customer service. We see a strong strategic fit between Comtec and Freudenberg Flow Technologies and look forward to working with the team to deliver continued innovation for customers across global offshore energy markets.”
