Trane has introduced the FLEX N HP and ARIES N HP, two advanced air-to-water heat pumps designed to enhance operational efficiency while expanding its R290 refrigerant portfolio. These units harness the thermodynamic properties of R290, a non-ozone-depleting refrigerant with ultra-low global warming potential, delivering exceptional seasonal efficiencies across the full temperature range. They are engineered to operate continuously in ambient temperatures as low as –20°C and produce hot water up to 77°C, making them ideal for both new installations and retrofitting projects, such as replacing boilers.
Erik Van Oossanen, Product Management Leader at Trane, stated, “Building owners are demanding solutions that lower their operating costs and carbon footprint while ensuring safe, robust, year-round performance. With these additions, Trane becomes the only manufacturer offering a complete lineup of R290 systems across heat pump and chiller segments, giving customers unmatched choice and flexibility.”
The FLEX N HP is a modular air-sourced heat pump featuring full inverter scroll technology, which provides precise and efficient operation over varying loads. Its modular design allows for quick hydraulic connection and streamlined electronic control in configurations of up to six units, supporting heating capacities exceeding 700 kW. This modularity facilitates easy transport and installation, enabling customers to expand capacity as building demands change. The unit’s compact design and side-by-side installation reduce onsite space requirements, and its low refrigerant charge of under 5 kg per circuit up to 125 kW enhances safety and environmental responsibility.
The ARIES N HP, offering capacities up to 230 kW, is a packaged all-in-one solution built on high-efficiency scroll compressor technology. Its double-circuit configuration ensures smooth defrosting and reliable heating even at low temperatures. The unit’s design aligns with traditional HFC-based systems, simplifying the retrofit process for upgrading existing installations. It achieves seasonal efficiencies up to 4.3 under typical conditions and operates down to –20°C, producing hot water up to 75°C. Integrated with Trane’s Symbio 800 controls, the ARIES N HP also meets advanced cybersecurity standards.
Both heat pumps incorporate Trane’s SDS²E system (Segregate, Detect, Stop, Signal, and Extract) to safely utilise R290 refrigerant. For FLEX N HP configurations, a mandatory safety interlock kit will shut down adjacent units in the event of a leak, adding an extra layer of protection when multiple units are installed together.
“FLEX N HP and ARIES N HP reflect our long-standing dedication to solutions built around real-world customer needs,” added Van Oossanen. “These platforms demonstrate our commitment to expanding high-efficiency, low-carbon options for commercial and industrial customers, backed by our expert service teams.”
