Met Group finalises second solar park in Italy

MET Group launches new solar power plant in Italy. The Caltignaga facility, with an installed capacity of 10 MWp, is expected to produce 15 GWh annually, powering 6,000 homes. This project marks a significant step in MET’s renewable strategy, enhancing its position in the European energy market.

Swiss-based energy company MET Group has successfully commissioned its Caltignaga solar power plant in Italy, marking a notable advancement in its renewable energy strategy within the region. The Agri-PV project, operational since July 2024, boasts an installed capacity of 10 MWp and is projected to generate 15 GWh annually, sufficient to power approximately 6,000 Italian households.

The construction involved the installation of around 15,000 solar panels, with engineering, procurement, and construction managed by CMC Europe Italy SRL. This plant is MET Group’s second solar endeavour in Italy, following the 10 MWp Ferrera Erbognone project commissioned in October 2025. The electricity generated from both parks is distributed through a mix of Corporate PPAs, GSE, and MET Energia Italia.

MET Group’s Green Assets Division is actively investing in solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems, with 445 MW of solar and onshore wind projects operational across Europe. Italy remains a focal point with a robust pipeline of projects under development.

The Caltignaga and Ferrera Erbognone systems exemplify the integration of renewable energy with sustainable agricultural land use, delivering economic and environmental benefits to local communities. Both power plants are owned by Keppel MET Renewables, a joint venture between Keppel’s Infrastructure Division and MET Group.

Clive Turton, Executive Chairman of MET Group’s Green Assets Division, stated, “The commissioning of the Caltignaga solar park is an important milestone in strengthening our presence in Italy, and a key step in our strategy to grow in Western Europe. We aim to become a major player in the European renewables industry and significantly contribute to the success of the energy transition.”

Looking ahead, MET Group continues to bolster its renewable energy portfolio, positioning itself as a significant contributor to Europe’s energy transition.
