ECSA summer school addresses microelectronics skills gap

Europe’s semiconductor expansion faces significant talent shortages. The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA) is addressing this with a summer school in Italy, focusing on microelectronics. Applications close on 29 March 2026, offering students a chance to advance their skills in a critical industry sector.

The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA) has announced its 2026 summer school, aimed at addressing the talent gap in Europe’s semiconductor industry. Scheduled for 23–28 August 2026 in Italy, the programme targets undergraduates with a focus on practical microelectronics skills. The curriculum spans semiconductor technology, integrated circuits design, digital systems and embedded intelligence, and integration, providing a comprehensive, hands-on approach.

ECSA is open to students from EU-based universities who have completed at least two years of study. Selection criteria include academic performance, motivation, and recommendations, with a focus on gender and geographical diversity. Participation is free, with accommodation and meals covered, though travel expenses are not. The programme’s emphasis on integration and embedded intelligence reflects the industry’s need for engineers adept at system-level design, aligning with Europe’s strategic efforts to expand its microelectronics capabilities.
